Carolyn Barnard Pryor, Ph.D., Class of 1958 – 2016 Tiger of the Year

While at Chaffey, Carolyn was editor of the 1958 Fasti, was a representative to Girls State, a member of the National Honor Society, a song leader, and graduation speaker. She received two scholarships that she used to continue her education at Lewis and Clark College, College of the Pacific and Whittier College where she graduated in 1962 with highest honors.

The Board of Directors of the Chaffey High School Alumni Association is pleased to announce that Carolyn Barnard Pryor, Ph.D., Class of 1958, has been selected as the 2016 Tiger of the Year. Carolyn was nominated by her classmate Niki Brown Rapattoni ’58.

While at Chaffey, Carolyn was editor of the 1958 Fasti, was a representative to Girls State, a member of the National Honor Society, a song leader, and graduation speaker. She received two scholarships that she used to continue her education at Lewis and Clark College, College of the Pacific and Whittier College where she graduated in 1962 with highest honors. She continued her post graduate education at the University of California, Berkeley (Master of Social Work) and University of Michigan (Ph.D.)

Carolyn’s career was in the field of social work. She began as a school social worker, then became a professor at Wayne State University. Currently she is a sociology instructor at Mt. Olive College and Brunswick Community College as well as a Clinical Social Worker and Adoptions Social Worker. She is very active in civic and community organizations as an educator.

Besides her career positions, she is a sailing instructor, sailboat captain and wedding minister with the Priority Sailing Academy. Finally, she works as an actor and model in commercial print and television and industrial films.

Carolyn has been an inspiration to everyone who has known her. Raised by missionary parents with high standards, she saw parts of the world none of us have seen. She has worked for social reform in many arenas, has given tirelessly of her time and talent to many causes, and has been recognized by her peers for her success.
